Position Overview / Scope of Role:
The Upcountry Sales Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the Company's sales activities across assigned upcountry markets. The position is accountable for expanding market coverage, developing customers and distribution networks, achieving sales targets, and improving the Company's presence and revenue generation outside Addis Ababa.
The role supervises upcountry sales activities and coordinates closely with Market Development, Logistics, Warehouse, Finance, and other relevant functions to ensure effective product availability, order fulfillment, customer service, and collection follow-up.
Top Roles and Responsibilities:
Upcountry Sales Management
Develop and implement sales plans for assigned upcountry territories in line with approved targets.
Ensure achievement of sales volume, revenue, and customer coverage targets.
Monitor sales performance by territory, product, customer, and sales channel.
Identify underperforming markets and implement corrective actions.
Ensure effective and consistent market coverage across assigned territories.
Market Expansion and Customer Development
Identify and develop new customers, distributors, agents, retailers, and institutional accounts.
Expand the Company's distribution network into new upcountry markets.
Identify high-potential markets and recommend market expansion opportunities.
Strengthen relationships with existing customers and distributors.
Monitor market demand, customer preferences, and competitor activities.
Sales Team Supervision
Supervise and coordinate assigned upcountry Sales Representatives and sales agents.
Assign territories, routes, customers, and sales activities.
Monitor individual and team performance and provide coaching and support.
Ensure sales personnel maintain proper customer and sales records.
Promote discipline, accountability, and results-oriented sales practices.
Distribution and Order Fulfillment
Coordinate with Warehouse and Logistics to ensure timely product availability and delivery to upcountry markets.
Monitor product distribution and identify supply or transportation challenges.
Ensure customer orders are properly followed up through delivery.
Recommend improvements to distribution routes and market coverage.
Sales Collection Coordination
Follow up customer and distributor payments in coordination with Finance.
Monitor outstanding receivables within assigned territories.
Ensure sales teams properly follow up customer payment commitments.
Escalate overdue or high-risk accounts to the Department Manager and Finance.
Market Intelligence
Collect and report information on competitor pricing, products, promotions, distribution, and market activities.
Monitor changes in customer demand and market conditions.
Identify new commercial opportunities and potential threats.
Provide management with practical recommendations based on field intelligence.
Sales Reporting and Performance Monitoring
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance against targets.
Prepare territory performance reports and explain significant deviations.
Track customer acquisition, sales volume, revenue, collections, and market coverage.
Provide timely field information to support management decision-making.
Customer Service and Relationship Management
Maintain strong relationships with key customers and distributors.
Ensure timely follow-up and resolution of customer complaints and commercial issues.
Monitor customer satisfaction and recommend improvements.
Support promotional and marketing activities in assigned upcountry markets.
Continuous Sales Improvement
Recommend improvements to territory coverage, distribution, sales routes, and customer management.
Identify opportunities to improve sales productivity and market penetration.
Support implementation of new sales channels and market development initiatives.
Performs other related duties as directed.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Sales, Business Administration, Management, Economics, or related fields.
Experience:
Minimum 4–6 years of relevant experience in sales, marketing, distribution, or customer management.
At least 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience is preferred.
Experience in FMCG, beverage, manufacturing, distribution, or consumer products is highly preferred.
Proven experience managing upcountry territories and distributor networks is an advantage.
