ABOUT KURMUK GOLD MINE PLC (KGM) 

Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with mining operations in multiple countries including Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d'Ivoire. KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project. These licenses are located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and about 90 km northwest of Assosa, in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. KGM is currently engaged in both mine development and exploration activities at the site.  

THE ROLE 

Short-Term Mine Planning Engineer (Open Pit) 

KGM is seeking a Short-Term Mine Planning Engineer with proven experience in open-pit design and scheduling, resource planning, specialized mine-planning software, and strong safety & environmental stewardship. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop detailed mine plans: Build and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly drill–blast–excavate schedules aligned to production targets. 
  • Optimize production & resources: Design mining sequences, loader–truck matchups, and waste-dump development plans to maximize ore recovery and equipment utilization. 
  • Waste-dump progressive rehabilitation: 
  • Plan staged dump lifts, berms, drainage, and topsoil/cover management. 
  • Schedule and track progressive rehabilitation (contouring, capping, seeding/planting). 
  • Monitor and report rehab progress against milestones and environmental KPIs; coordinate with Environment for inspections and corrective actions. 
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Geology, Operations, Maintenance, Survey, and Environmental teams to align plans and resolve constraints. 
  • Monitor performance: Track plan compliance, analyze production data, reconcile tons/BCM vs. targets, and recommend adjustments. 
  • Operational support: Provide clear dig plans, drill patterns, mark-ups, and shift handover notes; address day-to-day issues to keep the plan executable. 
  • Manage 3D models & design data: Maintain up-to-date weekly designs, reserves/depletions, and haul-road/dump files in 3D CAD/planning tools. 
  • Compliance & risk: Uphold health, safety, and environmental requirements; incorporate geotechnical, hydrology, and permitting constraints into plans. 
  • Reporting & continuous improvement: Issue concise weekly/monthly planning reports (including rehab progress), run what-if scenarios, and drive cycle-time and cost improvements. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mining engineering or a related field.  
  • Proven experience in open pit mining operations and strategic mine planning. 
  • Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Surpac, Datamine etc scheduling tools, and general CAD and 3D design, draft, volumes computations.  
  • Strong project management skills to oversee various stages of the mining project lifecycle. 
  • Be in possession of an Ethiopian driver’s licence.

  • Ability to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers. 
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel 
  • Written and spoken English and Amaric   
  • Able to work within tight timelines, maintaining accuracy and efficiency of assigned tasks
