The Strategies for Northern Development (SND) is a local non-governmental organization working with Pastoralist Communities in Southern Ethiopia. SND is guided by a vision to see a society where all Pastoralist Communities are resilient and live a dignified life.

Key areas of focus include; (1) Peace, Conflict Resolution and Governance, (2) Livelihood and Enterprise Development, (3) Protection, Gender Equality and Inclusion, (4) WASH, (5) Humanitarian assistance and Emergency response, (6) Climate Justice and Resilience (7) Health and Nutrition (8) Institutional Effectiveness.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Child Protection Manager will lead the implementation of Ethiopia Joint Response (EJR) Child Protection activities with the team, partners and other stakeholders. Key roles include; Budget management, implementation planning and execution, staff management, project level decision making and local level coordination.

Other Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and contextualization of child protection interventions under the EJR Project, ensuring responsiveness to community needs and priorities.
  • Collaborate with partners, government departments, and relevant stakeholders to co-design and implement comprehensive child protection activities.
  • Develop, review, and update response strategies based on evolving child protection risks and vulnerabilities
  • Facilitate training and capacity building for staff, partners, and community-based protection actors.
  • Ensure integration of child protection with other EJR sectors, such as WASH, livelihoods, and MPC.

Program Management and Delivery

  • Lead project start up, implementation, and close-out, ensuring all activities are delivered within the agreed timelines.
  • Monitor project burn rate and ensure efficient utilization of financial resources in line with approved work plans.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to child protection staff and social workers.
  • Manage budget planning, procurement, and compliance with SND and donor requirements.
  • Represent SND in legal processes and coordination on child protection matters where necessary.

  • Oversee monitoring and evaluation, ensuring timely and high-quality progress reports.
  • Actively participate in resource mobilization by contributing to proposal development, partner engagement, and funding opportunities related to child protection and other sectors of interest.

Coordination and Representation

  • Strengthen collaboration with government structures, humanitarian actors, and local leaders to enhance coordinated child protection response.
  • Represent SND in Child Protection Working Groups (CPWGs) and inter- agency coordination forums at Woreda, zonal and national levels.
  • Advocate for child protection priorities and ensure alignment with national and international child protection frameworks

Program Quality, Learning, and Accountability

  • Ensure adherence to national and global child protection standards, the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), and SND’s safeguarding policy.
  • Develop and adapt tools, SOPs, and training materials to strengthen program quality.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring, mentoring, and quality assurance visits.
  • Promote learning, reflection, and continuous improvement, ensuring lessons are documented and shared.
  • Uphold transparency, accountability, and integrity in all program management and team interactions
  • A bachelor’s or advanced degree in social sciences, Law, development Studies, community development or other relevant field.

  • At least 5 years’ progressive experience in project/ programme management preferably in a child protection context.

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven record of working with relevant  government departments, child protection actors and communities.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including forward planning and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to be flexible and achieve results in a fast- moving environment

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills in English and local language.

  • Good inter-personal skills and being able to effectively work with a diverse team of internal  and  external staff and partners.

  • Demonstrated honesty, accountability, transparency, and commitment to ethical conduct and safeguarding standards
