Reports to: CTO / Head of R&D

Role Purpose

Build and deploy AI-powered tools that people actually use. This role turns models and data into reliable, secure, and usable systems integrated with existing health and supply-chain platforms.
You will lead the development of agent-based tools (e.g. Forecasting Copilot) that help users ask questions, explore data, and make decisions safely.

Key Responsibilities

AI Product Development

●    Design and implement AI-driven assistants (chat-based, task-oriented, decision support).
●    Build Observe → Infer → Act workflows grounded in real data and permissions.
●    Ensure AI outputs are traceable, constrained, and explainable.

Systems & Integration

●    Integrate AI tools with existing platforms (ForLab+, ERP, DHIS2-like systems).
●    Build secure APIs, role-based access, and audit trails.
●    Ensure performance under low bandwidth and intermittent connectivity.

Data & Tooling

●    Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and schema-aware querying.
●    Prevent hallucinated queries and unsafe actions.
●    Manage usage limits, latency, and cost controls.

User-Centric Delivery

●    Work closely with product managers, designers, and field teams.
●    Translate real user workflows into system logic.
●    Iterate based on feedback from facilities, regions, and national users.
 

Technical

• Strong backend engineering skills (APIs, databases, authentication).
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, agents, or AI-assisted systems.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL and data-driven applications.
• Experience deploying production systems, not just prototypes.

Product & Systems Thinking

• Ability to design systems that fit into existing workflows.
• Strong judgment on when AI should act vs defer to humans.
• Focus on reliability, clarity, and trust over novelty.

Ways of Working

• Disciplined about documentation and system boundaries.
• Comfortable working with legacy systems and institutional constraints.
• Calm, methodical problem-solver.

Nice to Have

• Experience with ERP or enterprise system integration.
• Exposure to health, logistics, or government systems.
• Familiarity with offline-first or low-infrastructure design.

• AI assistants reliably used by real users.
• Clear reduction in manual analysis and errors.
• Systems integrated into national workflows.
• AI is seen as a trusted tool, not a risk.
