The Opportunity  

This position is responsible for assessment, response analysis, design and implementation of the education components of the multisector project emergency response. S/he will need to coordinate with other Emergency Response team members and Plan staff, especially Implementation Management, protection and other relevant technical sectors, to ensure a rapid, proportionate and effective response. S/he will need to ensure a response to immediate child education issues with simultaneous consideration of longer-term needs and possible scenarios. The officer may be expected to take a very active role in technical coordination, support and advocacy with the country-specific education clusters and other stakeholders and technical agencies relevant to the sector.

Safeguarding Children and Program Participants (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed per the appropriate procedures.

  • Ensures that all staff in the unit/function/department are properly inducted on and understand their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;

  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day-to-day work.

  • Ensures that Plan Ethiopia contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted.

The Individual

Qualifications/ Experience/Skills Essential:

  • University degree in Psychology, Education, EiE or related field

  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in EiE (majority in the field)

  • Minimum of two successful assignments in a complex refugee emergency (at least one of these must be field level post;

  • Establishing and implementing EiE/Primary school activities

  • Mobilising and training of primary school teachers

  • Support the implementation of the Primary school curriculum in the targeted schools

  • Knowledge and experience of using and providing training on the INEE Minimum Standards for Education in Emergencies

  • Support primary schools as per the MOE standard and education in an emergency context

  • Participation and/or coordination with the Education in Emergency - Education Cluster.

  • Experience with participatory approaches to EiE, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or other related areas.

  • Experience in refugee experience is preferable.

Languages required:

  • Fluency in the English language is essential

  • In addition to English, Knowledge of Local Languages is a desirable
