About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 14 Regional Offices, Zonal Branches and District/Woreda Branches, Woreda Red Cross Committee and Kebele Red Cross committees.
ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.
I. Details of the vacant position
Job Title: Human Resources Expert
Terms of employment: Permanent after probation period
II. Job Summary
Under the general supervision of Talent Acquisition and HR Administration Manager, the HR Expert participates in planning, budgeting and implementation activities of the work unit; compiles and organizes data from employees' personal files for specified human resource administration matters; receives and checks job application documents against requirements, registers and delivers eligible applicants for subsequent screening procedures; participates in subsequent recruitment and selection activities; processes attendance data for payroll preparation and personnel action purposes; facilitates and participates in the investigation of disciplinary cases and grievances and compiles data thereof; follows up social security matters of the Society’s human resource; handles personnel matters related to fulfilling employment formalities, completeness of personal records, leave taking, clearance of employment contract termination and so forth; follows up those issues in relation to branches on assignments of human resource administration matters and reports on outcomes accordingly.
III. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Participates in planning, budgeting and implementation activities of the work unit;
Receives and checks job application documents against requirements, registers and delivers eligible applicants for subsequent screening procedures; participates in subsequent recruitment and selection activities;
Compiles and organizes data from employees' personal files for specified human resource administration matters;
Keeps applicants concerned updated on relevant changes, unfulfilled requirements expected of them and the statuses and outcomes of the recruitment process;
Processes attendance data for payroll preparation and personnel action purposes;
Facilitates and participates in the investigation of disciplinary cases and grievances and compiles data thereof;
Follows up and gets accomplished social security matters of the Society in accordance with the national social security rules and regulations of the country; gives timely notification to concerned staff on progress and unmet requirements;
Receives, examines and refers personal claims, appeals, complaints and other cases lodged by employees;
Follows up and handles personnel matters related to fulfilling employment formalities, completeness of personal records, leave taking, clearance of employment contract termination and so forth;
Schedules the different leaves of employees of the National Secretariat based on properly assessed supporting data;
Prepares and compiles all relevant statistical data, records employees' entitlements of annual, maternity, marriage, leaves and leaves without pay, payments and other benefits;
Checks completeness and proper handling of personnel files and records;
Handles liaison matters of human resource administration with organizations contractually agreed with the Society to provide insurance and medical service;
Assists in planning and organization of services such as canteens, occupational safety and other welfare and recreation facilities for employees;
Performs other related duties and responsibilities of the job as assigned by the Human Resource Manager.
V. Job Specification
Second/ First degree in Human Resource Management/Personnel Management/ Management/ Public Administration, Business Management, Business Administration
4/6 years related work experience.
