General Information

Under the supervision of the HMA project Manager, the Physical Rehabilitation (Physiotherapist) Officer is responsible for leading, initiating, ensuring, coordinating, and following up of all activities related to physical and functional rehabilitation services (capacity building, medical referral, mapping of service provider outside Physical rehabilitation scope and distribution of mobility aids/devices) to conflict, manmade and natural disaster affected people.
The position holder (Physiotherapist) is expected to coordinate the MHPSS, Social Workers, EORE/NTS, and Field administration of the project in close collaboration among project partners, consortium members, internal referral project beneficiaries, as well as external referrals for services outside the project scope and consortium partners.
Given the emergency and sensitive nature of the program and areas of intervention, the position holders will be expected to work outside the normal work hours. S/he will be based in the Tigray region, Mekelle, with frequent (90%) travel to the field.
Project Implementation:
Train Social Workers on basic identification of victims of EO/ERW, disabilities, basic rehabilitation practices, and referral.
Together with Social workers, and health professionals, referring victims of EO/ERW for ongoing medical care, also ensure to provide access to rehabilitation services for these identified victims of EO and persons with disabilities through medical referral, and provision of mobility aids/devices.
Providing regular follow-ups to victims of EO through home-to-home visits and also at hospitals/health centers
In collaboration with Social Workers, EORE/NTS teams of HI, EPSS, and DRC are conducting an assessment of beneficiaries who are victims of EO and survivors of injuries due to the risks posed by EO/ERW
Based on the assessment, identify the Physical needs of the persons with disabilities and specify the type of mobility aids with full specifications.
Fill in the purchase request with detailed information considering the local train condition and the specific needs of persons with disabilities. Train Key health staff on fitting mobility devices, including wheelchairs, crutches, and other devices, for pre-primary and primary school children.
Ensure good communication with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs,), local actors working with Persons with Disabilities, and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) so that these actors support targeted beneficiaries with disabilities in IDP and the host community.
Conduct assessment for visual, hearing, and speech impairments to be referred to local service providers (private and government-owned).
Work closely with health facilities/hospitals. HI signedan MoU and refers persons with disabilities who need special services outside HI’s mandate.
Quality M&E and Reporting
Through close collaboration with MEAL and the Data Assistant officer, and by using the Victim Database of HI (IMSMA Form), keeping clean documentation of victims who receive both, direct, internal, and external services
Working in close collaboration with Social Workers, EORE/NTS, Inclusive Livelihood, MHPSS, and consortium partners to receive and/or refer victims of EO/ERW
Ensure the high quality of activities implemented as indicated in the project proposal document.
Participate in regular monitoring, midterm, and final evaluation of the project in consultation with the project manager and project partners, and documentation and dissemination of lessons learned and good practices to relevant bodies.
Work in close collaboration with the project manager and another project team to monitor the project outcomes and results as perthe indicated performance indicators and contribute to the documentation of good practices
Implement the formalized tools and methods developed within the project framework.
Coordination and Representation
Ensure a good level of communication and liaison with partners, consortium members, Hospitals, health centers, OPDs, as well as stakeholders operational in the project area, at the zonal and regional levels, working on Persons with Disabilities and rehabilitation.
Working in very close collaboration with social workers and the Inclusive Livelihood Officer for economic empowerment activities
Upon delegation by the project manager, representing HI, and attending cluster meetings with NGOs in the Tigray regional state.
In collaboration with the project manager, coordinates meetings to share lessons learned, experiences, and good practices of the project with partners, consortium members, government sector bureaus, and relevant NGOs, and advocates for the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
Qualification: BSc in physiotherapy from a recognized University with at least 4 years of Physical rehabilitation practice.
Experience in physical and functional rehabilitation within a community setting.
Willingness and ability to work in remote locations.
Experience in capacity building of partners in the identification of persons with disabilities and referring them to service providers.
Support the service provider to the community-based organization as per the signed MoU with the service providers.
Resilient to stress
Experienced in Mine Action, victim assistance projects will be advantageous
Knowledge and skill in the local language (Tigrigna) are a must.
