Job Summary

Position holder Provide comprehensive technical, programmatic, and logistical support to the woreda health office health workers and HEWs to ensure effective and innovative implementation of IYCF and ECD interventions integrated with CMAM, including analysis and reporting of nutrition trends, adaptation of IMC materials and tools to the local context, capacity building of HEWs, health workers, lead mothers, and community structures, and supportive supervision across community, OTP, SC, and TSFP sites. The role serves as the primary liaison between IMC, MoH, and local partners; strengthens counseling, referral, documentation, and supply systems from screening to discharge; promotes gender equity; supports surveys and reporting; ensures coverage and performance standards are met; facilitates community sensitization, breastfeeding corners, complementary feeding demonstrations, and review meetings; and guarantees that malnourished children and their families receive quality services, education, and timely nutrition support.

 Duties and  Responsibility 

  • Provide technical and logistical support to the woreda health sector for effective implementation of IYCF interventions activities and come up with innovative ideas for effective implementation.

  • Analyzing and reporting nutrition situation and prevailing trends

  • Develop and adapt IMC IYCF/ECD materials to the local context based on previous materials and current child rearing practices and needs

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between IMC and local partners involved in IYCF activities.

  • Implement and adapt relevant ECD tools to measure ECD/IYCF outcomes integrated to CMAM (e.g. mother child interaction, maternal mood)

  • Assist nutrition staff and lead mothers on counsel and strengthen the ECD/IYCF project in the OTP and SC sites and community level.

  • Educate other staff about key aspects and components of ECD/IYCF (e.g. child development, improvement of mother-child interaction, and group support focused on IYCF)

  • Send monthly reports and updates on the ECD/IYCF activities to the Nutrition Coordinator

  • Promote gender equity and equality through each level of nutrition activities

  • Plan with HEWs and other health workers working in Health posts to conduct complimentary feeding demonstrations for effective, sustainable and efficient implementation of IYCF interventions

  • Actively participate in breast feeding corner establishment and effective implementation

  • Provide Woreda level basic IYCF trainings to HEWs/Other health professional

  • Provide technical support to MoH health staff on management on IYCF

  • Sebsitize the community and HDAs on IYCF

  • Actively participate in SMART and IYCF surveys

  • Will provide technical support from screening to discharge (admission, treatment, follow up and referral) to provide care to under five years old malnourished children and uncomplicated severe acute malnutrition cases

  • Perform supportive supervision of IYCF activities and ensure they are implemented as planned

  • Ensure the appropriate referral system between SCs, OTPs TSFPs and IYCF

  • Ensure the cards, GMP registration books and other necessary formats are filled and documented proper

  • Liaise with ministry of health institutions, DPPD and other government organization at

  • Ensure the IYCF coverage reach above 60% for rural and above 70% for urban community and the other standard performance indicators are met appropriately 

  • Ensure that the families of malnourished children receive appropriate education and participated in the nutrition program

  • Ensure the nutrition items are provided to the health facilities and reach to the intended beneficiaries

  • Establishing linkage with community leaders and representatives

  • Organize review meeting at each woreda to review the progress of health intervention at the woreda level.

  • Perform another Other duties as required

  • Degree in nutrition or nursing or public health with 3 years of experience or diploma in nutrition or nursing or public health with 5 years of experience- Renewed MoH professional license is important

  • Experience on emergency nutrition intervention  like CMAM, IYCF and Nutrition sensitive interventions

  • Training on CMAM and IYCF

  • Experience of facilitation of training and review meetings

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and knowledge of respective woreda local language (Somali for dheka softu and Afan oromo for Gumi eldelo)

  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel)
