Background
Hararghe Health Research (HHR) is collaborative effort between Haramaya University and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the performance of maternal and child health studies to support program and policy. Current research projects include Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance network (CHAMPS, http://champshealth.org/), Maternal Immunization (MI), Invasive Bacterial Disease (IBD), pneumococcal and meningococcal surveillance studies, and EChiLBRiST - clinical trial.
The post holder will play a crucial role in the EChiLiBRiST, Clinical trial – a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating L-Citrulline oral supplementation to improve outcomes in admitted febrile paediatric patients at high risk of adverse outcomes. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting information on the clinical management of the patients, monitoring of study participants, ensuring adherence to the study protocol, Good Clinical Practice guidelines, and ethical considerations.
Position: (Clinical) Clinical Research Assistant Coordinator
Duty Station: Haramaya and Hiwot Fana Hospitals, Harar and Haramaya, Ethiopia
Number of Spots: 1
Report to: Research Coordinator
Salary: $385
Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Screen children for eligibility based on defined criteria.
Initiate and oversee informed consent procedures with parents/legal guardians, ensuring clear understanding of study participation.
Enroll eligible participants into the study.
Conduct thorough initial and follow-up clinical evaluations of admitted patients.
Monitor participants for adverse outcomes and readmission.
Assess and manage adverse events and serious adverse events, reporting them as per protocol requirements.
Ensure appropriate standard of care is provided to all participants.
Oversee the administration of assigned study supplement to randomized participants.
Monitor for tolerability of outcomes.
Oversee collection of various biological samples at specified timepoints for laboratory assessments.
Accurately record all clinical information and study data in Case Report Forms.
Ensure data confidentiality and proper handling of patient information.
Ensure participants and caregivers adhere to study procedures and follow-up schedules while in the hospital.

Job Requirements
Education: Medical Doctor (MD).
Experience: Minimum experience required is 0 year. Having experience in general practice, particularly with pediatric patients, clinical research or trials has a significant advantage.
Certifications: Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification and medical license are mandatory.
Skills:
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in pediatrics.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact sensitively with patients and their families.
Attention to detail for accurate data collection and documentation.
Ability to work effectively within a research team.
Proficiency in English and local languages relevant to the study sites (e.g., Afan Oromo, Amharic) for effective communication with participants.
Knowledge: Familiarity with clinical trial processes and ethical guidelines in research.
Working Conditions: The position will primarily be based at Harmaya Hospital and Hiwot Fana Hospital, in Haramaya and Harar, Ethiopia. The role involves work in Emergency Pediatric Outpatient Departement (EPOPD) and/or pediatric wards.
