Job Summary
The Carpenter I is under the direct supervision of Senior Carpenters and is responsible for the construction, installation, repair, and high-quality finishing of wooden products and architectural fixtures. This includes doors, windows, desks, tables, cupboards, kitchen cabinets, shelves, wooden flooring, bulletin/whiteboards, cubbies, and other wooden items for the school compound and leased residences.

Education: Diploma (10+2) graduate in Woodwork from a recognized TVET college

Duties & Responsibilities
Furniture Construction & Carpentry
Work with the section coordinator to construct new wooden furniture, such as shelves, kitchen cabinets, cupboards, cubbies, and other teaching-learning furniture.
Assemble new desks, tables, chairs, playground equipment, and shelves as per the manufacturer's manual.
Repair doors, windows, furniture, vertical and horizontal blinds, shutters, and other wooden parts of the building.
Surface Preparation & Finishing
Apply expert finishing techniques—including precise sanding, wood filling, staining, varnishing, lacquering, and painting—to achieve smooth, aesthetically pleasing, and durable surfaces on all new and repaired wooden products.
Restore, refinish, and repair worn or damaged finishes on existing school furniture, cabinetry, and fixtures to extend their lifespan and maintain a professional appearance.
Installation, Hardware, & General Maintenance
Install bulletin boards, whiteboards, smartboards, pictures, fire extinguishers, and different types of frames properly.
Replace broken locks, windows, and door glasses.
Inspect and execute preventive maintenance of doors, windows, curtains, blinds, whiteboards, etc.
Replace damaged transparent and iron corrugated sheets, EGA roofing, and roof skirting at the school and residences.
Repair school compound and residence gutters and make sure there is no leakage.
Workshop Safety, Organization, & Operations
Clean and arrange work areas, tables, tools, machinery, and appliances before and after work.
Install safety fences around the work area and ensure it is safe for the community.
Execute any carpentry works assigned by the section coordinator.
