Job Title: Junior Accountant
Location: Addis Ababa
Employment Type: Contract, Full-time
Duration: 6 months (with possibility of extension)

The African Women’s Peace and Security Institute (AWPSI) has been registered and accorded legal personality with registry Number 6906 on 07 June 2023, as a local organization in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No.1113/2019. The Institute’s primary commitment is to establish women-centered mediation training programs based on best practices in coordination with key stakeholders.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Finance and Administrative Officer, the Accountant will support the financial management and accounting functions of AWPSI. The position holder will assist in maintaining financial records, processing payments, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1, Financial Record Management

The Accountant will support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation. Key tasks include:

  • Recording financial transactions in accounting software and maintaining proper filing of financial documents.

  • Ensuring all financial documents are properly organized and archived.

  1. Payment Processing

  • Assist in preparing payment vouchers and processing payments in accordance with AWPSI financial procedures.

  • Verify supporting documents before payments are processed.

  1. Bank and Cash Management

  • Assist in maintaining petty cash records and conducting regular cash reconciliations.

  • Support bank reconciliation processes and ensure timely recording of transactions.

  • Assist in preparing bank documentation and payment instructions when required.

  1. Values and Ethics

The candidate should demonstrate a high level of integrity, accountability, punctuality, and professionalism. He/she should be willing to work beyond normal working hours when necessary and should embody AWPSI’s institutional values and ethical standards. The candidate should also be a strong team player and committed to supporting the mission of AWPSI.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualification and Other Requirements

Education:
BA degree in Accounting,

Experience:
At least five  years of relevant work experience in finance, accounting, or financial administration. Experience working with civil society organizations or development programs is an advantage.

Age requirement

  • 25 to 30 years of age

  • Women are highly encouraged

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and financial record management skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

  • Proven Knowledge of Peachtree accounting software.

  • Excellent written and spoken Amharic and English communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
