Sher Ethiopia PLC is one of the largest and most influential horticultural enterprises in Africa, specializing in the cultivation and export of premium-quality roses. Located in Ziway, Oromia Region, the company operates the world’s largest rose farm, spanning over 650 hectares of greenhouse area. Sher Ethiopia plays a vital role in Ethiopia’s floriculture industry, exporting millions of roses daily to European markets. Beyond its commercial success, the company is deeply committed to social responsibility employing over 14,000 workers, the majority of whom are women. To strengthen our team, we are looking for 1 Research Manager.

The Research Manager will lead, and coordinate research initiatives aimed at improving the rose crop productivity, sustainability and innovation. He/she will be responsible for designing, running, supervising and overseeing research projects, analysing data and presenting research findings to Sher Ethiopia management. He/she will possess excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Job Requirements

Field of study

           Key Responsibilities:

• Degree/Master’s in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Statistics

• >5 years in a research environment, preferably in the private sector

• Working experience as a Team Lead / Manager of a team of workers

For 2 years

• Develops and implements strategic research plans aligned with company goals.

• Designs, manages and oversees multiple field trials and experiments from beginning to end, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met including collecting and analysing data and presenting findings.

• Collects data on selected new varieties and codes being tested or grown in the trial houses on yields, stem length, head size disease and insect resistance for managements use in determining new commercial selections.

• Oversees data collection statistical analysis and interpretation of all research findings

• Oversees data collection statistical analysis and interpretation of all research findings 

• Develops methodologies to ensure research methods are consistent, accurate, and reliable.

• Analyses data using statistical methods and software, such as SPSS, Tableau and XLSTAT, to identify trends and patterns.

• Monitors project progress, prepare detailed reports, provide regular updates and progress reports to senior management on research progress and findings.

• Leads, mentors and supervises research staff including hiring and training of new employees and maintaining a positive work environment.

• Stays up to date on industry trends, best practices, and emerging research methods

• Ensure that research projects meet all ethical and legal guidelines.
